Cadman on the Winning Team for Vesterøya Barneskole

ARCHITECT:  HUS arkitekter AS & Landskapskollektivet AS
BUILDER:  Skanska
LOCATION:    Sandefjord – Norway
CONTENT:     School

Cadman is proud to have been part of the winning team for the new Vesterøya Barneskole project. Working alongside HUS arkitekter AS, Landskapskollektivet AS, and Skanska, we provided high-quality architectural visualizations that helped bring this ambitious school development to life. The new school is set to become a key educational and community hub, combining innovative architecture, sustainability, and flexibility for future generations.

A New School for Vesterøya

Following a competitive selection process, Skanska was awarded the contract to construct Vesterøya Barneskole, with work beginning in early 2025. The school is thoughtfully designed to blend into its natural surroundings, positioned between the coastal trail at Husebyjordet and the elevated terrain toward Industriveien. This strategic placement preserves the landscape while providing engaging outdoor spaces for students and the local community.

The three-story school building will feature warm wooden cladding, open-air corridors, and a design that balances modern aesthetics with natural materials. Inside, solid wood construction will contribute to a healthy indoor environment, while sections of the roof will be covered in sedum to offer green views from the upper floors.

Sustainability & Energy Efficiency

Designed with sustainability in mind, the school will function as a plus-energy building, generating more energy than it consumes. Solar panels will provide renewable energy, while eco-friendly construction materials and energy-efficient systems will ensure long-term sustainability. The outdoor areas are designed for universal accessibility, making the space inclusive for all users.

Flexible Learning Spaces

The school layout is designed for adaptability, allowing for various teaching methods and class sizes. Traditional corridors will be replaced by open, multi-functional areas that encourage collaboration. In addition to serving as a school, the building will also function as a community hub, offering spaces that can be utilized outside school hours.

Efficient Access & Logistics

Safe and efficient traffic flow has been a priority in the design, ensuring seamless access for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. Dedicated parking spaces, bicycle storage, and a well-planned drop-off zone will optimize daily operations while maximizing outdoor recreational space.

On Track for Completion in 2026

With a strong focus on quality and cost efficiency, the project is on budget and progressing according to plan. Some refinements will be made during development, but the overall vision remains unchanged: to create a state-of-the-art learning environment that will serve students and the local community for generations.
