Cadman makes Visuals for Fjord & Bælt Maritime Center
ARCHITECT: Rolvung og Brøndsted Arkitekter ApS
BUILDER: A.P. Møller Fonden and Kerteminde Municipality (Sponsors)
LOCATION: Kerteminde – Denmark
CONTENT: Maritime Research and Experience Center Expansion
Cadman is proud to have contributed visualizations for the expansion of the Fjord & Bælt Maritime Center, a project aimed at strengthening the center’s role as a hub for marine research, conservation, and education. Situated in Kerteminde, the new addition was designed to enhance public engagement while preserving its unique otter habitat, a central feature of the facility.

A Gateway to Marine Research and Education
The 2,100 m² expansion was carefully designed to integrate with the existing center while offering a more immersive experience for visitors. The new wing would have served as the main entrance, accessible before ticketing, ensuring that educational spaces remained open to the public.
At the heart of the project was the otter habitat, a unique feature embraced by the new structure, forming a three-winged layout that sheltered and enhanced this central element. The design prioritized seamless interaction between architecture, nature, and marine research, reinforcing the center’s mission of education and conservation.
Natural Materials and a Unified Design
To complement the harbor’s historic setting, the building’s exterior was planned to be clad in black-charred wood, a technique rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship. This material choice would have added visual depth while ensuring durability and sustainability in a maritime environment.
The roof structure unified the different programmatic elements, creating a cohesive and tranquil architectural expression amidst the dynamic surroundings of Kerteminde Harbor.

A Vision That Remains on Paper
Although the project was carefully developed to enhance both Kerteminde Harbor and the Fjord & Bælt Maritime Center, it will not be realized. Despite this, the process contributed valuable insights and ideas about how architecture can support marine research and public engagement.
Cadman is honored to have contributed to the visualization of this ambitious proposal, illustrating what could have been a significant addition to Kerteminde’s maritime identity.
